what is a manifesto?
A manifesto is defined as a mission statement or platform.
It is something that can change the course….yours, your business or that of whoever your tribe might be.
why write a manifesto?
If you don’t know where you want to go and how you want to get there chances are you’re going nowhere. Writing a manifesto is an exercise to get clear on the direction you or your business want to go. If you want to create change in your life or your business, if you want growth, intrinsic and financial, a manifesto is where you want to start.
why not just create a vision board?
Vision boards are great. But pictures will only give you the visual. The purpose of writing a manifesto is to force you to put words around whatever it is you want to do, be or create.
you can’t manifest anything you can’t articulate.
this makes manifestos critical to success.
is a manifesto the work of one person?
It could be but the best manifestos are a collaborative effort. An impartial individual can see the forest when you or your company are pressed against the individual trees.
If you are a business that is bigger than one, you must get others involved. Manifestos will only have impact when the people doing the implementing buy into them.
Besides, this is the sort of thing that will get pushed to the bottom of any to-do list if someone is not forcing you to get to it!
how many hours is this going to take?
That will depend on the size of your organization. A business of one should get this accomplished in three or four hour sessions IF they do the homework. Larger companies will take longer by virtue of the size of the organization and the numbers of people involved in the process. ( These guesstimates are for the written portion only and do not include any artwork or media that may be added to make the finished product visually aesthetic.)
after it’s done, what do I do with it?
Announce it to the world.
If the world is too much just yet, start with one other person.
Post it on your website or blog.
Maybe you do a video.
Display it in a prominent location in your office.
Read it as often as needed.
Manifestos serve as inspiration and a reminder of purpose. (particularly on those days when you forget what it is you and the rest of your office are doing this for anyway!)
